Jim is a researcher and a Professor of Health Policy, Epidemiology, and Global Health at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). He is regarded as one of the world's foremost experts in health policy modeling and economic evaluation. His work uses cost-effectiveness analysis to inform and rationalize public health and treatment strategies. He is the author of over 40 published studies on the prevention and treatment of AIDS in Africa and Asia, and a regular contributor to top international medical journals. He has been funded by the U.S. National Institutes of Health, UNAIDS, The World Health Organization, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and many other public and private agencies. He has also worked in the fields of tuberculosis and malaria, and is currently principal investigator of the US-financed Global Health Intervention Review
